Marunouchi Direct Access Co. Ltd.,
Japan's First Dark-Fiber Communications Service Provider,
Begins Offering Services


Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd announced that Marunouchi Direct Access Co., Ltd, a joint venture of Mitsubishi Estate and Marubeni Corporation, starts leasing an optic-fiber network in the Marunouchi, Otemachi, and Yurakucho business districts, prestigious business areas in Tokyo, Japan. Since the new firm was formed in June 2000, the firm has obtained a Type-1 telecommunications business license in July 2000, and it has set up dark-fiber lines to lease the network to tenants and telecommunications service carriers.

Before starting the service, the firm has laid down approximately 4,000 optic-fiber lines in each floor of 40 buildings, which include 24 buildings owned and operated by Mitsubishi Estate. Communication service will be provided to each tenant through the communications center owned and operated by Marunouchi Direct Access. Marunouchi Direct Access will also lease the network to other telecommunications service carriers, which in turn will provide tenants with:

- High-speed Internet Connection Service
- Domestic and International Telecommunications Service
- Wide Area Ethernet Service
- Data Center Operation
- Direct Optic-Fiber Based Telecommunications Service

The service area will become the first place in which cutting-edge broadband network services are available. The service will allow tenants to take advantage of high-speed telecommunications network and to reduce communication and information-system costs.
